Vol. 343 No. 6

Written Answers. - Uninsured Driving.

172.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of people convicted for uninsured driving in 1982.

Limerick East): Figures of convictions for driving without insurance are not available, as the relevant statistics compiled by the Garda Síochána include not only the offence of having no insurance but also, for example, that of failing to produce a certificate of insurance at a Garda Station within the prescribed statutory period of ten days.

The available statistics for 1982 in respect of offences relating to compulsory vehicle insurance will appear in the Commissioner's Crime Report for that year which is expected to be published in a month or so.
