Vol. 343 No. 6

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

832.

Mr. Treacy

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a children's allowance will be issued to a person (details supplied) in County Galway; and when all the arrears will be paid.

A children's allowance book at the monthly rate of £11.25 payable from April 1983 was issued direct to the claimant's home address on June 9, 1983. A payable order in respect of arrears due for March 1983 is in the course of issue.

833.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will expedite the payment of unemployment assistance which is due from 10 March to 12 April 1983 to a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon.

The person concerned was in receipt of unemployment assistance of £22.45 being the maximum £25.45 less means £3, until he ceased to sign the unemployed register on 1 March 1983. Inquiries are being made to establish the amount of unemployment assistance to which he is entitled from 10 March 1983 to the date he reached pension age on 20 April 1983 and arrangements have been made to pay all arrears due to him in respect of that period this week.

834.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will expedite the payment of unemployment assistance at the rate of £28 per week which is due since March 1982 to a person (details supplied) in County Roscommon; and if he will approve a further 10 per cent increase.

The person concerned has been in receipt of unemployment assistance since March 1982 and is at present receiving £22.55 a week, being the appropriate maximum weekly rate in his case of £40.80 less notionally assessed means of £18.25 derived from his farm. Following the receipt of representations on his behalf from the Deputy his case has been referred to a social welfare officer for reinvestigation of his means. When these inquiries are completed his entitlement to unemployment assistance will be reviewed in the light of the social welfare officer's report.

As his means will now be factually assessed his entitlement will be determined by reference to the standard rates of unemployment assistance, which will include the 10 per cent increase with effect from 29 June 1983.
