I have allocated a total of £297,000 to County Donegal for environment works and youth employment in 1983. The distribution of this amount among the local authorities in the county is a matter for internal arrangement having regard to the level of youth unemployment in each area. I understand that there is also a carry forward to 1983 of some £64,000 from allocations under this scheme made to the county in 1982 but not spent during that year.
Local authorities have put forward particular projects which might qualify for additional special financing under the youth employment programme, provided certain criteria are satisfied as to the quality of the work and of the work experience. The proposals put forward are being considered in conjunction with the Youth Employment Agency, as the financing body.
