asked the Minister for the Environment if in view of the number and mileage of roadways in County Wexford which are as yet unsurfaced he will increase the level of the local improvements scheme grant to Wexford County Council to that of Galway or Mayo County Council; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - Local Improvements Scheme.
Unlike the other counties referreed to, Wexford is not one of the counties affected by the roads element of the western package and accordingly its annual allocations under the local improvements scheme have not kept pace with those two counties undertaking projects which attract EEC aid related to expenditure of national funds. By comparison with other counties outside the western package area, Wexford with £22,000 for 1983 has the second highest allocation. There are no funds at my disposal to increase the allocation to any county.
659.
asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give in detail the amount of money made available to each county council in this country under the local improvement scheme in 1965 and all subsequent years.
The local improvements scheme is operated under the Local Government (Roads and Drainage) Act, 1968. The allocations made since then are set out in the table below. The table reflects the introduction of EEC aid under the western package with effect from 1981.
