Vol. 344 No. 7

Written Answers. - Register of Electors.

680.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will arrange to have the 1984-85 Register of Electors printed in order of house numbers in urban areas rather than in alphabetical order which is most unsatisfactory for obvious reasons; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In accordance with the regulations, this is a matter within the discretion of the registration authorities having regard to the general character of each locality within their registration area. My Department have advised that where the houses in a street are numbered, electors should be listed in house number order, and where houses are not numbered, listing may be either in alphabetical order or in walking order. Local authorities have been urged by my Department to ensure that in all built up areas, streets are duly named and the houses within them numbered.
