Vol. 344 No. 7

Written Answers. - Work Experience Programme.

727.

asked the Minister for Labour the reason there is for the long delay in paying young people who are employed under the work experience programme.

Young persons participating in the work experience programme receive a weekly allowance of £30. The allowance is paid weekly to the participant by the sponsoring employer. Reimbursement of these payments is then claimed from my Department on a six-weekly basis by the employer.

As the employing organisation undertake to pay the young person directly there should not be any delay in payment and I am not aware of delays. In any instance where it is found that employers are not complying with the conditions of the scheme, remedial action can be taken by the National Manpower Service.
