Vol. 344 No. 7

Written Answers. - Redundancy Payments.

728.

asked the Minister for Labour when a redundancy payment will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Cork; and the reason for the delay.

I understand that the person concerned has submitted an appeal to the Employment Appeals Tribunal under the Redundancy Payments Acts and the Minimum Notice and Terms of Employment Act and he has been informed that it will be heard by the tribunal in Mallow on 15 July 1983. The tribunal's decision will be sent to the person concerned shortly after the hearing together with advice as to how to obtain payment, in the event of a favourable decision.

729.

asked the Minister for Labour when a redundancy payment will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Cork as it is outstanding for some time.

Under the Redundancy Payments Acts, 1967 to 1979, the obligation to pay a redundancy lump sum to a redundant worker rests primarily with the employer who is obliged to notify my Department of the proposed redundancy. No notice of redundancy has been received in this case in my Department and I understand that an appeal has not been referred to the Employment Appeals Tribunal.

I am arranging to send the worker concerned the appropriate forms and the Guide to the Redundancy Payments Scheme to enable him to pursue a claim for a redundancy payment under the Acts.
