Vol. 344 No. 7

Written Answers. - Absenteeism Losses.

732.

asked the Minister for Labour the number of days lost as a result of absenteeism during the past six months.

The information requested by the Deputy is not available in my Department as employers are not obliged to make returns of work days lost due to absences from work by their employees.

Absenteeism is widely accepted as a problem not only in Ireland but throughout Europe. Various research projects have suggested that success in dealing with this problem can best be sought through joint management and trade union initiatives.
