Vol. 344 No. 7

Written Answers. - Gormanston (Meath) Camp.

738.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state in relation to his Estimates speech of 16 June 1983, the closing date for tenders for the major new works at Gormanston Camp; the type of works envisaged; when building will commence; the intended completion date; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As I indicated in the speech referred to by Deputy, the major new works at the camp for which tenders have been invited include a brigade headquarters and officers' mess. The latest date for the receipt of tenders for the building works is 12 July 1983 and the latest date for the receipt of tenders for the mechanical and electrical services involved is 19 July 1983. It is hoped that it will be possible to place the necessary contracts by the autumn and that work will commence shortly thereafter. It is anticipated that the project will take at least a year to complete.
