Vol. 344 No. 9

Written Answers. - Finglas (Dublin) Cable TV Service.

469.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the reason a large section of the Finglas area, County Dublin, has had its access to cable television cut off; if the Marlin and Dublin Cable companies are one and the same; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The basic cable television rental charge in the area has remained unchanged since Dublin Cablesystems Limited (formerly Marlin Communal Aerials Limited) took over the cable television assets of another company in 1975. Dublin Cablesystems Limited have terminated agreements with the subscribers concerned because those agreements, which were entered into by the previous company, did not permit them to increase their charges to subscribers. Dublin Cablesystems Limited have offered services to subscribers at new rates, which have been approved by my Department, acting on the advice of the National Prices Commission.
