Vol. 349 No. 4

Written Answers. - Clondalkin (Dublin) Unemployment.

505.

asked the Minister for Labour if, in view of the serious unemployment crisis in the Clondalkin area of County Dublin, he will agree to the provision of an AnCO training centre in the area.

I am satisfied that the training needs of the Clondalkin area are already adequately catered for, and the provision of additional training centres for that area could not at this time be justified.

The training needs of the Clondalkin area are catered for by the existing AnCO training centre at Tallaght which intends to train 1,612 persons in 1984 and also by the other centres located in the Dublin area. In addition, the Tallaght training centre operates mobile training units and community and travellers' workshops in the area.

Additional training needs can be met by the provision of external training courses, that is, by using outside firms or consultants to provide specific courses on AnCO's behalf.

The Community Youth Training Programme, which provides training and work experience for young unemployed persons, redundant apprentices and craftsmen, also operates in the area and will continue to do so.
