Vol. 350 No. 3

Written Answers. - Clondalkin (Dublin) Traffic.

520.

asked the Minister for the Environment when improvements will be carried out at Newlands Cross and the Clondalkin by-pass at Clondalkin, County Dublin.

521.

asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the critical traffic situation in Clondalkin village, arrangements can be made to approve construction of the section of the Fonthill/Newlands road at Clondalkin, County Dublin, as far as the New Nangor Road; and when approval for this would be forthcoming.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 520 and 521 together.

Dublin County Council have been requested to prepare proposals for the improvement of the junction of New Road and the Naas Road and it is anticipated that this project will form part of the council's works programme to be undertaken in the current year from road grants.

The council have been advised that there is no immediate prospect of specific road grants being made available for the construction of a new road fron Fonthill to Newlands, or for the construction of sections of such a road, to form a by-pass of Clondalkin. However, I am advised that substantial relief will be afforded to the Clondalkin area with the construction of the Naas Road/Galway Road section of the Dublin Ring Route which is expected to be the subject of a local public inquiry later this year.
