Vol. 352 No. 5

Written Answers. - Lamb Exports.

227.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the efforts that have been made to find markets for our lamb exports.

CBF have been concentrating most of their promotional efforts on the French market for lamb. Exports to France account for 80 per cent of our total exports of lamb. Useful markets for Irish lamb have also been developed in Belgium and West Germany.

If we are to maintain and develop our position in these highly competitive outlets it is essential that we produce the type and quality of lamb that these markets demand. This is lamb of good conformation with a minimum of fat.

Following intensive activity by CBF a market for light mountain type lambs has been established in Italy in recent years.
