Vol. 352 No. 5

Written Answers. - Chair Lift in School.

325.

asked the Minister for Education the assistance that is available for a person in Dublin 12 whose daughter is disabled and attends a school (details supplied) in Dublin 12 who have been asked to install a chair lift, as from July onwards the girl will be moving to an upstairs classroom and the board of management of the school have applied for permission for such a lift.

My Department does not provide grants for lifts in existing national school buildings. There are usually less expensive measures that can normally be taken to facilitate disabled pupils. My Department has under investigation an inquiry from the authorities of the school referred to and has asked its inspector to call to the school to advise the chairperson of the board of management.
