asked the Minister for Education if she will state in relation to the following categories of teaching staff, (1) national, (2) secondary, (3) community, (4) comprehensive, (5) vocational: (1) the number employed in each sector for the school year 1983-84; (2) the total amount paid in salary in each sector for the taxation year April 1983 to March 1984; and (3) the total amount deducted from each category of teachers in respect of (a) PAYE, (b) PRSI, (c) health contribution levy, (d) youth employment levy, (e) income levy and (f) superannuation.

The information requested by the Deputy is set out in the attached statement in respect of teachers in national, secondary, comprehensive and community schools. A composite deduction is made from teachers' salaries in respect of PRSI, health contributions, youth employment levy and income levy and is paid over to the Revenue Commissioners who apportion it as appropriate (e.g. the amount of the youth employment levy is paid to the Youth Employment Agency).

Information in respect of vocational teachers is being obtained from the Vocational Education Committees and will be forwarded to the Deputy when it becomes available.
