Vol. 353 No. 9

Written Answers. - Sligo Bridge.

638.

asked the Minister for the Environment the reason for the delay in commencing work on the construction of the new bridge in Sligo.

The commencement of construction work on the proposed new bridge over the Garavogue River in Sligo is dependent on the outcome of Sligo Corporation's application for a bridge order under the Local Government Act, 1946. In turn, processing of the bridge order application is dependent on the completion, by the Corporation, of certain preliminary procedures. These include the preparation and submission by the corporation of design documents for the approach roads to the bridge, together with clarification by the Corporation of the position regarding the acquisition of properties needed for the initial phase of the project.

The design documents for the approach roads were received in my Department yesterday and are being examined. Clarification of the position regarding property acquisition is still awaited.
