Vol. 353 No. 11

Written Answers. - Waterford School.

599.

asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in commencing work on a new school building for St. Martin's School, Lady Lane, Waterford.

I have no doubt that the Deputy is aware that the original scheme for the provision of a new building at Lady Lane for St. Martin's School, Waterford, had to be abandoned when in the course of preliminary site works features of important archaeological interest were uncovered. Following that it was necessary for the school authorities to acquire a new site and to start afresh on the design of a school with reference to that site. My Department is at present considering a report from the Commissioners of Public Works regarding the costings of the proposed new building which are now satisfactory and expects in the near future to issue formal grant sanction, together with authorisation for the preparation of contract documentation.
