Vol. 354 No. 4

Written Answers. - Farmers' Contribution,

634.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the confusion caused to farmers by the receipt of separate demand notices for the special levies and health contributions from the Revenue Commissioners and from the health boards; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Revenue Commissioners are responsible for the collection of health contributions, youth employment levy and income levy from farmers in respect of liability arising on or after 6 April 1984. Health boards are responsible for the collection of arrears outstanding in respect of periods prior to that date. Consequently a farmer in arrears with these charges will receive separate demands from the two collection agencies, i.e. from the Revenue Commissioners in respect of current liability and from the health boards in respect of arrears.
