Vol. 355 No. 1

Written Answers. - Athlone Hospital.

408.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that the recent rationalisation plan sent to him on 27 December 1984, by the Midland Health Board in response to a demand from him, represents a complete turnabout to his and the Taoiseach's stated commitment of the provision of an orthopaedic centre for the Athlone hospital; and when he will make a decision on this plan.

I am aware that the rationalisation plan prepared by the Midland Health Board and submitted to me at the end of December last does not make provision for an orthopaedic unit at Athlone Hospital. The plan has been discussed by my Department with the management of the board. I am considering the report of that discussion and will make my decision on the entire set of proposals in the board's plans soon.
