Vol. 355 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Donegal Industrial Projects.

281.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism the plans he has for the provision of industrial jobs in Buncrana, Carndonagh and Moville, County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

282.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism the number of unoccupied factories owned by the Industrial Development Authority in County Donegal; and the location and floor area of each factory.

283.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism the number of jobs approved by the Industrial Development Authority for the Donegal region and if he will give details of (a) each individual project, its name, location, product, projected number of jobs and the period over which these jobs will arise; (b) job losses in Industrial Development Authority approved industries in County Donegal over the past three years by company; and (c) the plans, if any, the Government and the Industrial Development Authority have for promoting Donegal for new industries.

): I propose to take Questions Nos. 281, 282 and 283 together. I am informed that in 1984 the Industrial Development Authority approved almost £6 million in grants for 130 industrial projects in County Donegal which will involve a total fixed asset investment of over £11 million.

Details of the individual projects in respect of which grant payments will be made will be published in future IDA annual reports. I should add that details of additional employment or new products to be provided by individual firms and the period over which such employment will be provided could not be disclosed without the prior agreement of the firms concerned.

Over the past three years approximately 670 jobs have been lost in industries grant aided by the IDA in County Donegal. The details are set out in tabular statement 1 which I propose to circulate in the Official Report.

Details of the number, size and location of factory space available to the IDA for industry in County Donegal are set out in tabular statement 2 which I propose to circulate in the Official Report.

The IDA are continuing to promote all of County Donegal, including the Inishowen Peninsula, for suitable overseas and domestic industrial projects. During 1984 the IDA approved grant assistance of over £767,000 for 13 industrial projects in the Inishowen Peninsula which will involve a total fixed asset investment of over £1.5 million.
