Vol. 355 No. 7

Written Answers. - Rosslare (Wexford) Harbour.

448.

asked the Minister for Communications when the new harbour authority will be set up in Rosslare, County Wexford, as provided in Building on Reality, 1985-87; and if he will make a statement on its composition.

Rosslare harbour is owned by the Fishguard and Rosslare Railways and Harbour Company but is managed and operated by CIE.

The detailed arrangements necessary to implement the Government's decision to set up a harbour authority at Rosslare are at present being examined. Since it would appear that legislation will be required both in this country and in Britain to effect changes in the present management system, I am not in a position to say when the new harbour authority will be set up or to comment on its proposed composition. Contact has already been established with the British authorities in this matter and I can assure the Deputy that everything possible will be done to expedite the implementation of the Government's decision in this matter. Meanwhile, preparations for legislation here are proceeding apace. I am also looking at possible interim arrangements to allow for local participation in the affairs of the port.
