Vol. 355 No. 7

Written Answers. - Educational Leave.

447.

asked the Minister for Communications the number of persons from his Department who are currently on (a) paid educational leave and (b) unpaid educational leave; the nature of educational courses being pursued and the cost to the State in monetary terms and in services lost by such absences; and the average number of such absences and average cost to the State for the year 1984.

There are no persons from my Department currently on paid educational leave. There is one officer on unpaid educational leave who is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts Course in University College, Dublin. There is no cost involved to the State from his absence.

In 1984 there was one person from my Department on paid study leave at a cost to the State of £9,420 and one person on unpaid study leave at no cost to the State.
