Vol. 356 No. 7

Written Answers. - Educational Prospects.

644.

asked the Minister for Education the steps which have been taken to increase communication between parents and guidance counsellors especially at the leaving certificate level to encourage parents to broaden their daughters' career and educational prospects.

The Deputy will be aware of my commitment to eliminating sexism in education and in particular to raising the level of awareness amoung educators, parents and pupils of the need for girls and boys to broaden their educational and career perspectives. A whole series of actions has been set in train in pursuit of that objective.

I have consistently stressed the need to involve parents to the fullest extent in career guidance and that point is emphasised in the programme of regional seminars organised last year and this year for principals and guidance counsellors.
