Vol. 356 No. 7

Written Answers. - Pension Entitlement.

510.

asked the Minister for Defence the reason for the non-payment of non-contributory pension to a person (details supplied) in County Cork employed by his Department in Cork.

A pension under the non-contributory pension scheme for non-established State employees is based on the annual rate of pay on the last day of reckonable service less twice the annual amount of social welfare contributory old age pension payable to a single person. The person referred to by the Deputy did not qualify for a pension under the scheme because on the last day of his reckonable service, his annual rate of pay was less than twice the annual amount of the relevant contributory old age pension. He was, however, paid a gratuity of £1,994.48.
