Vol. 356 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Cork Companies.

454.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism the number of companies in Cork city and county that have ceased to do business since 1980.

My Department do not have the information sought. The Registrar of Companies receives copies of court orders appointing liquidators. However, the only geographical information required to be registered in the Companies Registration Office is the location of the registered office of a company which may not be the location from which its business is carried on; for instance, the registered office of a Cork company could well be a Dublin firm of solicitors. Consequently, it is not possible to furnish the information on the basis of actual place of business and the provision of information related to registered offices would not be meaningful.
