Vol. 357 No. 1

Written Answers. - Cashel (Tipperary) Post-Primary Facilities.

640.

asked the Minister for Education if, in the interests of local democracy and the need for the utmost co-operation among the various educational interests involved, she will accede to the urgent request from South Tipperary Vocational Education Committee to meet a deputation to discuss the present prospects for a community school at Cashel, County Tipperary.

Before coming to a decision about the future post-primary facilities at Cashel, I had informed myself fully of all the issues. My Department had discussed the matter at length with the local school authorities, including the South Tipperary VEC. I am satisfied that the decision in this case was the best having regard to all the local circumstances. I do not propose to change that decision. Accordingly I do not consider that any useful purpose would be served by meeting with a deputation from the Vocational Education Committee.
