Vol. 357 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Transport.

568.

asked the Minister for Education if severely mentally handicapped children who are cared for by their parents at home are entitled to free school transport to enable them to avail of training facilities and if she will make a statement on the matter.

My Department's authority for operating school transport is limited to conveying pupils to schools recognised by my Department. Transport of severely mentally handicapped children to residential or day care centres where training facilities are available and which are grant assisted by health boards and the Department of Health is a matter for the Minister for Health.
