Vol. 357 No. 11

Written Answers. - Roscommon County Hospital.

578.

asked the Minister for Health the reason for the non-replacement of a paediatrician in the County Hospital, Roscommon.

The annual cost of providing a consultant paediatrician at Roscommon County Hospital, including the cost of the necessary support staff, has been estimated by the Western Health Board at well over £200,000 at current prices and I have told the board that I am not in a position to provide additional resources on this scale.

There is also the consideration that full consultant staffed paediatric services which are capable of catering for Roscommon children are already available in the Western Health Board area.
