asked the Minister for Education if she will give a detailed and up-to-date report on the current position in relation to a national school (details supplied) in County Meath.

My Department on 16 December 1982 conveyed their agreement to the authorities of the national school referred to that the school building should be extended. It was subsequently necessary to seek an extension of the school site and when the site had been surveyed and acquired to have title thereto investigated and declared satisfactory. These matters have now been attended to and the Commissioners of Public Works have been asked to prepare a sketch scheme. When the scheme becomes available, my Department will communicate further with the school authorities.

asked the Minister for Education if she will give a detailed and up-to-date report on the current position in relation to a school (details supplied) in County Meath.

The position is that some years ago the County Meath Vocational Education Committee acquired a particular site for the school in question on the basis of a commitment given by Meath County Council to develop the access road, which is in public ownership. Architectural planning of the project was initiated subsequently and reached the working drawing stage when costly planning conditions imposed by the council effectively placed the onus for developing the access road on the committee. My Department were advised in March last that, following an appeal by the committee, An Bord Pleanála had upheld the council's conditions.

Arising from a recent meeting held in my Department to discuss the situation the committee are to examine fully the possibility of building the new school on an alternative site offered by the council. When this examination has been completed, the committee are to submit their conclusions to my Department concerning the relative merits of building on the alternative, as against the original, site.
