Vol. 358 No. 12

Written Answers. - Income Tax.

607.

asked the Minister for Finance when a refund of tax which was deducted on the emergency basis for the years 1983 to date and the loss of which is now causing serious hardship will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Offaly.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that a claim for repayment of tax, which had been deducted from construction payments made to the taxpayer by principal contractors during the period 30 April 1983 to 31 December 1983 was received by the inspector as recently as 2 April 1985 from the agents acting on the taxpayer's behalf. The claim has been processed and a cheque in settlement of the greater part of the tax deducted will be issued to the taxpayer as quickly as possible. Repayments of the balance is being withheld to cover possible VAT liability pending receipt of outstanding returns by the inspector who has communicated with the agents in the matter.
