Vol. 360 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tuam (Galway) Water Supply.

30.

asked the Minister for the Environment the proposals that both he and his Department have in conjunction with Galway County Council for the upgrading and improvement of the water supply to Tuam town, County Galway; and if he is aware that the people of Tuam have been the victims of a bad water supply for a long period of time; if he will make an immediate decision to direct both his Department and Galway County Council to put the necessary funds and resources into improving the Tuam water supply; the amount of money that will be made available; the exact proposals that will be implemented and if he will make a statement on this serious situation.

It is a matter for each local sanitary authority to determine the water supply needs within its functional area and to submit proposals to meet these needs for my approval. A preliminary report for the proposed Tuam regional water supply scheme was received in my Department on 5 March 1985. Further information was requested from Galway County Council before the report could be considered. This information was received on 29 May 1985 and the report is at present being examined in my Department.
