Vol. 362 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dundrum Central Mental Hospital.

122.

asked the Minister for Health whether the new special unit that has been built in the central mental hospital in Dundrum is now intended to be used for prisoners with drug addiction and if it is so intended to be used why it has not yet been brought into operation; and when it is anticipated this facility will be utilised.

128.

asked the Minister for Health if it is intended to provide a treatment unit for drug addicts, including prisoners at the central mental hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 122 and 128 together. The new unit at the central mental hospital is virtually completed and will shortly be available for admissions. Consideration is now being given to the categories of persons who would derive most benefit from the new facilities, having regard to present day needs.
