Vol. 362 No. 10

Written Answers. - Beef Support Arrangements.

76.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will clarify the position of this country in respect of the proposed abolition of intervention buying of beef; the proposed change of payment of export refunds; the action he proposes to take on behalf of the cattle and beef industry as we are the largest exporters of beef and cattle in the EC, if there is any change in policy and if he will make a statement clarifying the position because of the serious consequences facing the cattle and beef industry, one of our largest commodity exporters.

No proposals for changes in the beef support arrangements have yet been put forward by the EC Commission. When any such proposals are made it will be my objective to secure the best possible outcome for the beef industry here.
