59.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the cost of increasing pensions, long term unemployment assistance and payments for deserted wives and unmarried mothers by 5 per cent.

The estimated full year cost of increasing pensions, long term unemployment assistance and payments for deserted wives and unmarried mothers by 5 per cent is £70.3 million. This estimate also includes the cost of increasing the rates of prisoners' wives and single women's allowances but not of health benefits such as disabled person's maintenance allowances.
