Vol. 363 No. 10

Written Answers. - County Cork Industrial Development.

16.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism if he will advise the IDA to give priority for industrial development to the towns of Mitchelstown and Mallow as both of these towns are now suffering from high unemployment due to the restrictions on milk production as they were dependent of the dairy industry for increasing the number of posts in the past.

I am informed that the Industrial Development Authority are actively promoting Mitchelstown and Mallow as locations for the establishment of new industrial projects. In addition, the authority are actively co-operating with An Cómhlucht Siúicre Éireann Teo., with a view to finding an alternative project for the Erin Foods Limited factory in Mallow. The authority have a ten-acre site in Mitchelstown, a 21-acre industrial site and a 23,500 sq.ft. advance factory in Mallow which are available for suitable industrial projects.
