Vol. 363 No. 10

Written Answers. - Galway Port Site.

85.

asked the Minister for Communications if he is aware of a proposal by an Bord Iascaigh Mhara to sell off a 52 acre site in the Galway port area at the request of the Department of Fisheries and Forestry; if he is aware that this site is vital for the proper development of the Galway port area; and the steps, if any, he intends to take to ensure that the land does not fall into the hands of speculators and remains under public ownership to ensure the proper development of the port area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Galway Harbour Commissioners are interested in acquiring for harbour development purposes a site owned by Bord Iascaigh Mhara comprising about 43 acres at Lough Atalia which is part of an area being disposed of in accordance with a Government decision. Arrangements for disposal of the site are a matter for the Department of Fisheries and Forestry.
