Vol. 363 No. 13

Written Answers. - Political Parties' Finances.

42.

asked the Taoiseach the proposals, if any, he has for the introduction of legislation which would oblige all officially registered political parties to give annual detailed accounts of the sources of their finances and financial contributions to the appropriate statutory authority; if he accepts that such a provision is justified in the public interest; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Since the issues involved affect all political parties in the House it would seem an appropriate matter for discussion in the first instance with party leaders through the appropriate channels. I propose to ask Mr. Seán Barrett, TD, Minister of State at my Department and the Leader of the House to initiate these discussions.
