asked the Minister for Communications if he will give details of the scheme currently in force and approved by him governing the amount of permissible advertising on each of the RTE radio and television channels, either by placing a copy of same in the Oireachtas Library or otherwise; and if he will specifically indicate, in relation to any hourly limit agreed to by him whether the hourly totals are calculated on the basis of hours that have elapsed from the commencement of broadcasting each day, or whether they are calculated on the basis of clock hours, i.e. 7 p.m. - 8 p.m.

The following advertising times have been fixed by the Authority and approved by the Minister under the Broadcasting Authority Acts, 1960-79.

Television

RTE1 and RTE2: 10 per cent of total daily programme hours, subject to a maximum of seven and a half minutes in any one hour.

Radio

Radio 1: 10 per cent of week-day programme hours but excluding the period 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. subject to a maximum of seven and a half minutes in any one hour. 10 per cent of Sunday programme hours between 6.30 a.m. and 7 p.m. subject to a maximum of seven and a half minutes in any hour.

Radio 2: 10 per cent of programme hours subject to a maximum of seven and a half minutes in any one hour.

Radio na Gaeltachta: No advertising.

The total daily times for broadcasting advertisements are based on total daily programme hours.
