Vol. 364 No. 11

Written Answers. - Donegal Road Grants.

35.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that a newly formed roads committee in the Letterkenny area have threatened to take legal action against Donegal County Council over the pothole conditions of roads, and if, in view of the atrociously bad conditions of roads all over Donegal, he will recognise the need for a major injection of money to prevent what is generally seen as a near crisis situation.

The State grant for roads allocated to Donegal County Council for 1986 totalled £6.318 million. This represents an increase of 9 per cent relative to the original allocation notified to the local authority in 1985. It is not possible at this stage to allocate any additional road grants to any local authority because the funds available in 1986 have been fully allocated.
