asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give details of grants paid to Galway Corporation under the environmental works scheme, outlining the type of work and amount of grant in each project for the past two years; and the total grants paid to Dublin Corporation, Limerick Corporation, Cork Corporation and Waterford Corporation for the same period.
Written Answers. - Environmental Works Scheme.
The Environment Works (Youth Employment) scheme was terminated at the end of 1983 and the only allocations made to local authorities for environmental works in 1984 and 1985 were in respect of projects submitted by local authorities under the Environmental Works (Special Projects) scheme. The only Galway Corporation project submitted involved the development of open waste land at the promenade in Salthill as a public amenity park, at a total cost of £150,000. Allocations of £80,000 and £33,000 were made towards this project in 1984 and 1985 respectively. Coupled with the 1983 grant of £37,000, the grants made met the cost of the project in full.
