Vol. 365 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Free Allowance.

144.

asked the Minister for Finance if his Department will investigate the case of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 5, who is on contributory old age pension and who was recently presented with a tax free allowance of £4.47 per week; if he will give details regarding the reference on the assessment to investment income of £362 and other earnings of £4,525; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that, as the taxpayer's estimated total income for the current year 1986-87 is not likely to exceed the appropriate age exemption threshold of £7,350, he is not liable to income tax for 1986-87. An amended certificate of tax free allowances granting tax exemption for that year was issued to him on 3 April 1986.
