Vol. 365 No. 4

Written Answers. - House Inspection Delays.

70.

asked the Minister for the Environment the steps being taken to secure housing inspectors in view of the four months delay at present in the carrying out of inspections in Cavan and Monaghan.

While delays have occurred in relation to certain categories of grants, I do not accept that there is an overall delay of four months. I have made arrangements to double the total number of inspectors engaged on grant inspection work. Thirty-seven new temporary inspectors have already taken up duty and a further 27 are in course of being recruited. The deployment of inspectors is kept under continuous review to take account of inspection requirements in various locations.
