Vol. 365 No. 5

Written Answers - National Concert Hall.

24.

asked the Taoiseach whether the Government view the National Concert Hall as a further liability on the State or as a commercial enterprise which would, for the most part, be self-financing.

The Government do not regard the National Concert Hall either as a liability on the State or as a commercial enterprise which would, for the most part, be self-financing. It has every confidence that its board will continue to endeavour to ensure the commercial success of its artistic programme while taking full cognisance of the need to maintain the high artistic standards appropriate to a National Concert Hall.

They believe that, since its inception, the hall has provided an invaluable additional venue for the country at large for the promotion of concerts and the recital of musical works of artistic, educational and/or cultural value. The National Concert Hall has also provided and continues to provide facilities for practice, rehearsals and performances by the RTE Symphony and Concert Orchestras.
