Vol. 365 No. 9

Written Answers. - Tax Arrears.

35.

asked the Minister for Finance if the rate of deduction of income tax for a person (details supplied) in County Wexford in relation to arrears from previous years can be reduced in view of her financial circumstances.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that the taxpayer's husband has been in receipt of a social welfare invalidity pension since June 1981 but the existence of this pension, which is paid gross, was not brought to the notice of the inspector of taxes until the end of 1984. Consequently, arrears of tax have arisen for all years from 1981-82.

The inspector of taxes will now communicate with the taxpayer as to the manner in which the arrears of tax attributable to the invalidity pension are to be collected.
