Vol. 365 No. 14

Written Answers. - Petrol Sales Gift Offers.

34.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he regards the operation of gift offers accompanying petrol sales as fair trading in the best interests of the consumer; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Limerick East):: I am not aware of any grounds for believing that the use of promotional offers in connection with the retail sale of petrol is contrary to the interests of consumers or is otherwise undesirable. The indications are that these offers, which receive considerable consumer support, are a significant feature of competition between petrol distributors.
