Vol. 366 No. 2

Written Answers. - Open Forest Day.

36.

asked the Minister for Tourism, Fisheries and Forestry the reasons that he confined the much-publicised open forest day of 8 November 1985 to one forest in each country; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As only a limited number of forestry staff could be released from their normal duties to conduct guided tours at the various centres, it was not possible to extend the open forest day to a large number of centres. One centre was selected in each county so that the open forest day would be available to the public on the widest possible geographical basis.

I regret to say that, despite widespread advance publicity, there was a poor attendance by the public and the facilities provided more than adequate.

Question No. 37 re-entered for oral reply.
