The canals are owned by CIE but will be transferred to OPW on 1 July 1986.
There is provision in the legislation transferring the canals to OPW for consultation with my Department on any matters which affect or could affect fish, fish life, fish stocks or fishing in the canals.
I will, of course, consult with the Central Fisheries Board on the development of fishing in the canals.
