Vol. 369 No. 1

Written Answers. - EC Allocation to Border Counties.

246.

asked the Minister for Finance the total amount of money allocated to each Border county from the EC tourist orientated Border fund 1980 to 1985; and the amount of money paid to each county.

The amounts allocated and paid from the fund in respect of each of the Border counties in the years 1980 to 1985 were:

Allocation

(IR£m.)

County Donegal

9.443

County Cavan

3.099

County Monaghan

2.244

County Leitrim

1.911

County Louth

1.816

18.513

In addition an amount of IR£1.251 million, which cannot be broken down on a county by county basis, was allocated in respect of the five counties as follows:

(IR£m.)

Bord Fáilte—tourism promotion

0.500

Bord Fáilte—technical and consultancy fees relating to accommodation

0.051

CTT—marketing aids for small and medium sized industries

0.700

1.251

TOTAL

19.764

In addition, a grant of £188,000 was provided for the development of Sligo airport. This development, while strictly outside the geographical scope of the programme, has facilitated the development of tourism in the Border counties by providing easy access to the Border area and is therefore regarded as an integral part of the programme.
