Vol. 369 No. 3

Written Answers. - Speed Limits.

69.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the danger to motorists and pedestrians from articulated trucks exceeding the speed limit and if he has any plans to prevent this.

I am aware of the danger to which the Deputy refers. Enforcement of speed limits is a matter for the Garda Síochána.

At present, my Department is reviewing speed limits generally having regard to the general improvement in recent years in the standard of the road infrastructure and vehicle design, the speed limits in other EC member states and a survey carried out by An Foras Forbartha at the Department's request. In this review, regard will be had to danger referred to by the Deputy.
