During 1985, a total of 61 foreign fishing vessels were detained by the Naval Service for alleged breaches of fisheries regulations. Prosecutions were instituted in 57 of these cases and convictions were secured in respect of 54. Up to 12 November a total of 30 foreign fishing vessels were detained in 1986. Prosecutions were instituted in 27 of these cases and convictions in respect of five were secured. A total number of 25 cases have still to be heard by the courts.
